Volunteers to help us rebuild our first home .
Last holiday season Relief Spark volunteers purchased toys, clothing, kitchen appliances, dishes/glassware and silverware along with educational items and all other toys that were requested by the families we adopted.
In all, we gave a Christmas never to forget to two families with a total of 27 children.
In addition to all the gifts that each child and parent received, we also were able to give each family and child VISA gift cards to spend however they chose.
This year we are doing the same, however we are focused on one family who desperately needs your help.
THE HURST FAMILY
Our executive director, Sidney Ray, came across an article about a family who lost their home in New Orleans East to about 8 feet of water. The homeowner, a bright and intelligent young man was shot by a stray bullet and left paraplegic. Luckily for him he has been surrounded by family and friends - especially his mother who is by his side helping him each day with the things that many of us take for granted.
Miss Ray has been out to their house on more than one occasion. Measurements have been taken on the interior and exterior and some yard cleanup has been performed. However, there is A LOT more to do and therefore we are asking families across the country to reach out and help us help this family get back into their home with new furniture, new clothes and other items that the family has specifically requested (after Miss Ray asked a million questions).
The following is what mama Hurst wrote to Miss Ray in a recent letter. Please take the time to read it and please let us know what you can do to help by filling out the form below. Your donation is tax deductible and desperately needed by this family. 100% of all donations will go directly to the rebuilding of their home, to new clothes for mama and son as well as new furniture and a new handicap accessible van.
Mama Hurst answered several questions and the best way to provide this information to our donors and volunteers is to post it the way it came to us:
